Empowering the Visually Impaired with Rehnuma Awaz
"A bilingual screen reader designed to bridge the digital divide for persons with disabilities in Pakistan."
In Pakistan, over two million visually impaired individuals face significant challenges in accessing technology due to the lack of localized assistive tools. While our neighboring countries have developed screen reader add-ons supporting local languages, Pakistan’s disabled community is still waiting for an inclusive solution. Existing screen readers often provide robotic and unnatural voices, making them difficult and frustrating to use, especially for Urdu-speaking users.
Rehnuma Awaz, a groundbreaking bilingual screen reader, is here to change that. Funded by Ignite and implemented by Centangle Interactive, this solution enhances existing screen readers like NVDA (for Windows) by integrating our custom Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine. This engine generates natural-sounding male and female voices tailored for the Urdu language, making technology more accessible, user-friendly, and empowering for the visually impaired in Pakistan.
Key Features:
01
Bilingual Support
Seamless integration for Urdu and English languages.
02
Enhanced Natural Voices
Moving beyond robotic sounds, our TTS delivers natural male and female voices, enhancing user experience.
03
Integration with NVDA
Rehnuma Awaz is designed as a specialized add-on for the NVDA screen reader, enhancing it to fully support Urdu language and cultural nuances.
04
Cross-Platform Compatibility
Solutions for Android and iOS utilize existing native screen readers (TalkBack and VoiceOver), paired with our custom Urdu TTS.
05
Community-Centric Design
Developed with feedback from Pakistan’s visually impaired community, ensuring it meets their real-world needs.
How It Works:
Rehnuma Awaz enhances accessibility in the following ways:

Natural Voice Synthesis
Custom male and female voices provide a life-like auditory experience, making navigation smoother and more intuitive.
Why Pakistan Needs Rehnuma Awaz
While solutions in neighboring countries offer screen reader add-ons in local languages, Pakistan’s visually impaired population faces significant neglect in this area.
Existing options fail to deliver
Custom male and female voices provide a life-like auditory experience, making navigation smoother and more intuitive.
Language Barrier
Limited or no support for Urdu, the primary language of millions, severely restricts accessibility.
Rehnuma Awaz addresses these gaps by enhancing existing tools, empowering Pakistan’s disabled community to fully participate in the digital world.
