Rahnama Awaaz provides full support in both Urdu and English languages so that Urdu speaking people can easily access digital content on the internet in their own language.
Unlike traditional robotic voices, our Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine provides natural, human-sounding male and female voices, which are pleasant to listen to and easy to understand.
The solution works seamlessly with existing NATO screen readers such as TalkBack (Android) and VoiceOver (iOS), and also provides natural voices on mobile with the help of the Urdu TTS engine.
Rahnama Awaaz is specially designed for the NVDA screen reader, providing Windows users with a seamless and enhanced Urdu experience, without any complicated settings or additional learning steps.
Over two million blind and visually impaired people in Pakistan face severe difficulties in accessing technology, largely due to the lack of effective assistive tools in the Urdu language. While screen readers are available in our neighboring countries that fully support local languages, visually impaired people in Pakistan are still waiting for a comprehensive, reliable, and local language-based solution.
The screen readers that are currently available are often based on unnatural and robotic voices, which are not only unpleasant to listen to but also difficult and frustrating to use on a daily basis, especially for Urdu-speaking users.
In such a situation, Rehnuma Awaaz has emerged as a welcome development. It is Pakistan’s first bilingual (Urdu and English) screen reader, which has been developed specifically keeping in mind the needs of Pakistani users. This project has been funded by Ignite and developed by Centangle Interactive.
